Laptop Printer
Computer technology, especially for laptops and notebooks, has come a long, long way in the last decade. As is the case with all electronic products used by consumers – FAX machines … video games … cell phones … and more – the prices have come down while product capability has soared.
That’s a fact. It is especially true about printers, at least those printers that are being used with desktop computers. Full size printers now cost a fraction of what they once sold for and they offer more features in the bargain. A good desktop printer will produce laser copies (or inkjet copies, as well) … can be used for scanning … and also functions as a copier.
Laptop printers are not quite as advanced. They are portable, of course, as is the laptop computer. They are much, much smaller than full size desktop printers. In fact, an average run-of-the-mill laptop printer normally weighs between 5 and 10 pounds which means it is about half the size of a desktop printer.
Of course, its smaller size means that it generally carries a larger price tag. That’s because the smaller electronic products are, the more difficult they are to construct. The additional labor and the tiny parts always result in a higher retail cost.
Laptop printers are also only available in inkjet. Technology hasn’t progressed enough to date to enable manufacturers to produce laser laptop printers. However, it’s probably just a matter of time before laser laptop printers are developed and become available to consumers.
Laptop printers are more expensive to operate than desktop printers, even laser desktop printers. In fact, it usually costs about ten cents per printed copy to use a laptop printer. Desktop printers cost a user much less … about two cents per printed page. Worse yet, the larger, more powerful desktop printers almost always produce superior copies simply because they are built better and can perform better.
And yet, there is something to be said for portable laptop printers. If you’re an on-the-go businessman or woman, laptop printers enable you to work efficiently while you’re out of the office. They are functional and reliable and, because they are so lightweight, they are also incredibly portable – easy to take with you wherever you go.
Importantly, you can purchase a laptop printer that produces copies in black and white or in color, that’s your choice. And while laptop printers currently cost more than desktop printers, they are still quite affordable. If you use a laptop computer and you travel frequently, consider purchasing a laptop printer. It can add an entire new dimension to the work you do for your employer or for yourself.
Good laptop printers currently cost between $100 and $200. Remember: they are portable which means they are not part of your laptop computer … they are completely separate and must be carried along with your laptop computer. Consider, as well, that most laptop printers are battery-operated. You will need to re-charge the battery regularly in order to enjoy the use of the printer.
